The 9th episode of DrumSkool215, host Joey Breakdown rolls out an all vinyl, all Metalheadz session. Sticking with the heavier, cinematic techstep vibe from the legendary label, he rolls out jams from Adam F, Peshay, Doc Scott, Source Direct, Photek, J. Majik, Digital, Dillinja, Teebee, and of course no Metalheadz set would be complete without a healthy helping of Goldie. Perfect vibes for the incoming freeze. http://drumskool215.blogspot.com/ DrumSkool215 Episode 8: Vocal Choons!
October 16, 2011 02:29 PM PDT
The 8th of the Philadelphia based DrumSkool215 podcast series features host Joey Breakdown running through almost two hours of classic, sing-your-lungs-out vocal choons. Spanning from way back in 1994 up until 1999, the mix winds through classic after classic belters from dons like Goldie, Roni Size, Krust, Alex Reece, Peshay, Aphrodite, and DJ SS, to name a few, alongside dnb remixes or bootlegs of the likes of Bjork, Olive, Mary J Blige, Everything But The Girl, Soulstice, and many many more. Check it out! http://drumskool215.blogspot.com/ DrumSkool215 Episode 7: Jeepers Creepers w/ Armen
October 16, 2011 11:24 AM PDT
Ed Rush and Optical's seminal 1998 full length debut "Wormhole" always gets all the love... and for good reason. It pretty much changed the game for drum n bass, single-handedly dragging the sound into an unprecedented, new frontier. But it's the duos follow up, "The Creeps" (released in 2000) that always did it for me. It carefully built upon the rolling, techno-funk of its predecessor but was somehow this even funkier, grittier soul - the production streamlined to yet another level. It's aimed straight for the dancefloor, yet can just as easily be appreciated driving high speed down the interstate, during late night subway rides, or just spacing out on your bedroom floor inside a great pair of headphones. I've always felt the whole album works so well as one piece so I thought it was appropriate to showcase it on our podcast, in full, in October of course. Rounding off this months show to take us waaaaaaaaay back is the one and only DJ Armen, a longtime Philadelphia drum n bass staple - from his days stocking the dnb racks @ 611 Records through to his many residencies and opening sets for the genres biggest superstar jocks. Enjoy the mix everyone, this is a good one. http://drumskool215.blogspot.com/ DrumSkool215 Episode 6: Magin vs Breakdown
October 16, 2011 10:50 AM PDT
The 6th Episode of DrumSkool215 brings summer in Philly to a close with a guest spot by the one and only Jason Magin. A legend in P-town from his days slaving over the drum n bass bins @ 611 Records to his pioneering Fuzed Funk parties and radio show, the well traveled disc jockey has an extensive knowledge of the genre and a collection deeper than most. We were so stoked to finally have him stop through and school us all with some rare and exclusive bits. Cuts and remixes by the one and only Rufige Kru, Ray Keith, Photek, Urban Shakedown, Dillinja, Deep Blue, L Double, Omni Trio, Cool Hand Flex and Kenny Ken all make appearances, among many other essentials. Play this nice and loud for the neighbors! http://drumskool215.blogspot.com/ DrumSkool215 Episode 5: Back to 1997
October 16, 2011 09:28 AM PDT
I broke out the techstep classics this month for a straight hour of heady sci-fi steppers guaranteed to take you right back to 1997. As with the last show, I stuck with all vinyl throughout. The usual suspects all make appearances, showcasing my favorite labels of the time - Metalheadz, 31 Records, Ram, No U-Turn, Prototype and Renegade Hardware, among others. Spark one up and get lost in the bass. http://drumskool215.blogspot.com/ DrumSkool215 Episode 4: Cuebik vs Breakdown
